How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on KitcheneTools starts with one question: will this product fit the way you make pizza? For an oven or tool, that means your cooking space, the food you want to make, your preferred fuel and how much room you have to work and store it.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with the cooking space and the job

A large wood-fired oven may not suit a small patio. A peel that is too wide may not fit your oven or storage space.

We check oven dimensions, cooking area, fuel, heat range, portability and setup needs. For tools, cookware, mixers, bakeware and prep tables, we consider size, materials, capacity, compatibility and the tasks they are meant to handle.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at the details the maker lists: materials, dimensions, weight, fuel type, temperature guidance, mixer capacity, included accessories and care instructions.

Makers describe their products in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms the maker lists.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like ovens that struggle to hold heat, peels that bend, stones that crack, mixers that strain or cookware that is difficult to clean.

One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A product that's useful for one cooking space or style may score lower in a guide written for another.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages up to date

Products change, and some disappear from stores. Makers sell close models under similar names, so we check each model name and what comes in the box, and we only link new units.

We skip unknown brands with no track record and any product with a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.

Follow the maker's instructions for setup, fuel, heat, cleaning and storage. Use ovens and hot baking surfaces with care.
