How To Create A Light And Airy Kitchen

The kitchen is the hub of the home – or so they say, which is why you need to make the most of the area.

Kitchens should be welcoming and inviting, and what better way to do this then to create a light and airy space.

These top tips can help you to create the type of kitchen you want, making the area light and open:

Get The Colour Right

Light colours work well for creating that open look, however you want to avoid it looking too sterile.

If you want to choose white that’s fine, but it may be best to incorporate a bit of colour into the kitchen whether through accessories, light coloured tiles or the units.

Beiges and creams can also work well as, although they are light, they have warm tones to them – creating that welcoming feeling.

Marble worktops can work well with this as they provide a creamy finish to your surfaces that looks nice and clean.

Choose Natural Lighting

If a space is brightly lit up it instantly opens up the space. Natural light is always best so if you have lots of windows then make use of them.

Not only do windows bring in lots of light, they also offer views into the garden or outside, which makes you think you are in a much bigger area.

If your kitchen doesn’t allow for lots of natural light, or the light is obstructed from entering the kitchen easily, you may want to consider spot lights throughout the room to provide a natural lighting effect.

Accessorise To Add Personality

You still want your kitchen to look homey which is why you need to add some personality to it, and the best way to go about doing this is to accessorise carefully.

You don’t want to overcrowd and clutter the room, but you also don’t want it to look bare and unlived in. Choose a colour you want to incorporate and start with that.

Maybe add some candles or some pictures on the wall, or even a mirror to make the most of the space.

Bring Some Life In

Flowers and plants not only make everything look pretty and nice but they also create that ‘fresh’ look. By placing a beautiful vase of flowers in the centre of your kitchen table or worktop, or even a nice plant on the window sill, it creates a more inviting atmosphere in your kitchen.

If you are a bit of a green fingered expert you could try your hand at growing a few potted herbs on the window sill such as coriander, parsley and basil; not only does it look great, but it’s a perfect accompaniment to your cooking.

Allow For Plenty Of Seating

If you have a small kitchen this may be a bit more difficult, but even then you could always add a few stools for people to sit on.

If there is plenty of seating in your kitchen people will feel comfortable to come and spend time in there; it creates a relaxed atmosphere that enables you to socialise in that space.

By taking on board these top tips, your kitchen will be the one that everyone is envious of. It helps to create a relaxing environment that you will be proud to show off.
